The first European Kesurokai was held at the Open Air Museum in Diesdorf, Germany and was attended by a wide variety of carpenters,
blacksmiths and other craftsmen, providing a showcase of high quality work.
The founder of Kesurokai, the highly respected temple carpenter Sugimura San, brought over a delegation of Japanese craftsmen and many others attended from Germany, Britain, France, Czechoslovakia, Sweden, Holland along with other European countries.
These videos were taken by my partner Robin Wood, who attended the event to demonstrate his craft turning bowls on a traditional foot-powered lathe. Firstly hewing beams the German way:
